Display maker Boston Group is expanding by relocating operations from Medford, Mass., and Youngstown, Ohio, to a large facility in Ravenna, Ohio.

The move will combine the Medford headquarters and metal, wire and electrical components operation with the Ohio plastics extrusion and injection molding business, known as Boston Retail Products Inc.

With the move, Boston Group will double its manufacturing space, using roughly 300,000 square feet of a former General Electric distribution center. The upgraded site is closer to Boston Group's vendors, allowing for faster deliveries.

The company said it plans to boost capacity and output with 24/7 lights-out operation. The building will feature a new paint line, automation and assembly equipment as well.

Boston Group's website said its Youngstown site currently runs nine fully automated plastic extruders, two injection molding machines and in-house tool and die design and development. In addition, the company offers coextrusion and dual-extrusion capabilities.

The company expects to open at the new site this fall, Portage County development officials told local media. Some workers will relocate from Youngstown, Ohio, which is about 35 miles east of Ravenna.

The third-generation, family-owned company was launched in 1937 by Irv Rubin and today is run by President and CEO Russell Rubin. Boston Group manufactures plastic and metal displays and fixtures, and matting products to protect walls and floors for retail stores, pharmacies and hospitals. The company employs about 100 and plans to create 45 jobs in Ravenna.

The company's European operation, Boston Retail Products BV, is based in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and has sales offices in Germany and France as well as distributors in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa.
